My PhD dissertation explores queer women?s experiences in urban and suburban public spaces in Melbourne. I will be undertaking semi-structured in-depth interviews in order to gain insight into the experiences of queer women in public spaces and to reveal common narratives and concerns. Drawing on phenomenological perspectives, my work seeks to investigate embodied experiences of space and how this inhabitation of space is influenced by emotions and by the norms implicit in design and architecture. I also focus on identity and community membership, examining how experiences in spaces designated as public and semi-public are influenced by performance of particular identities. |
